Illustrative sketch to show how the public space could look

Public Space

As with other Alumno schemes we have asked our arts consultant Matthew Jarratt to look at the creation of public art work specific to the site and neighbourhood. Overall our aim is to engage local artists, fabricators and the local school to create a new ‘poetry garden’ around the building entrance and a sculpture commission for the courtyard which will all be unique and engaging arts commissions designed specially for the project.

We hope to be working with Birmingham`s new Poet Laureate Casey Bailey, who we met through the literacy agency Writing West Midlands. Casey will be our lead poet and help with writing workshops and digital ‘augmented reality’ projects to engage the pupils of the nearby Selly Park Girls School.

The local upcoming artist Betsy Bradley has also been contacted via Birminghams IKON gallery. Betsy has been invited to produce designs for the courtyard artwork which would be fabricated by a local company formerly working in engineering and steel mills.
